Three suspects wanted for multiple murders, including the 2023 killing of a police sergeant, were shot and killed by police in Inanda on Tuesday evening.
Inanda shooting: Here’s everything we know
According to KZN police, the shooting occurred in the Congo area of Inanda, where a multidisciplinary team acted on intelligence regarding the suspects’ location.
Upon arriving at a house on Nombonjani Mtshali Road, the police team encountered four suspects who immediately opened fire.
In the ensuing gunfight, three suspects were fatally wounded and declared dead at the scene.
One suspect managed to flee into the darkness, prompting a manhunt that is currently underway.
The suspects were linked to several high-profile murder cases. Notably, they were implicated in the murder of a police sergeant from the KwaMashu Tracking Team in June 2023.
The sergeant was disarmed and killed with his service firearm.
Additionally, the suspects were connected to a double murder in Inanda in January 2024 and two other murders in the area dating back to 2021 and 2023.
The successful neutralisation of these suspects has been met with praise for the police forces involved.
Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, commended the team for their bravery and dedication.
He reiterated the commitment of the police to relentlessly pursue and apprehend those who threaten the safety and security of the community.
