The Department of Correctional Services (DCS) has rearrested an inmate who escaped from the Boksburg Correctional Centre on Wednesday.
A hunt for the inmate, Martin Jackson, was launched by the department, together with other law enforcement agencies, to apprehend Jackson soon after his escape.
“The Department of Correctional Services confirms that Martin Jackson has successfully been apprehended and returned to custody.
“This swift apprehension demonstrates the Department’s commitment in ensuring that all inmates serve their sentences as mandated by the courts,” the DCS said.
The department said Jackson is serving a 20-year sentence for robbery, theft and possession of a firearm with ammunition, and has been behind bars since April 2015.
Furthermore, an investigation into the escape is underway.
“The Department of Correctional Services is conducting a full investigation to understand the circumstances surrounding the escape and to prevent future incidents.
“The inmate will now face additional criminal charges related to the escape,” the department said.
