A notorious murder suspect wanted for years was killed in a shootout with KZN police in Hillcrest.
Hillcrest shooting ends terror of KZN’s most-wanted killer
According to police, the dramatic end to a long-standing manhunt occurred on Monday when members of the KZN Stabilisation Task Team and the Durban K9 Unit located the most-wanted murder suspect in Hillcrest.
The confrontation escalated quickly into a gun battle, during which the suspect was fatally shot.
This suspect was infamous for his role in the 2022 murder of a young man during a church service in Wyebank, an act that had marked him as a top target for provincial law enforcement.
His accomplice is still on the run, KZN police confirm
While the primary suspect’s reign of terror concluded in Hillcrest, his accomplice remains at large, prolonging the state of alert among the police forces and the community.
The incident began when police apprehended the main suspect at King Shaka International Airport as he attempted to escape the province.
Subsequent investigations led officers to a residential complex in West Durban to seek out his accomplice.
It was here, under the guise of using the bathroom, that the suspect armed himself, leading to the fatal struggle.
A firearm was recovered at the scene, and efforts to capture the second suspect are ongoing, with police urging the public to come forward with any information that might assist in the manhunt.
