New details in the murder of Hillary Gardee, daughter of attorney and former EFF Secretary General Godrich, have surfaced and as Mpumalanga police had suspected, the 28-year-old suffered a brutal death.
Hillary Gardee murder: Post-mortem details surface
As police scramble to find the suspects involved in the heinous murder of Godrich’s daughter, the EFF has revealed new information discovered at the victim’s post-mortem examination.
According to the EFF’s Sinawo Thambo, who’s been appointed as the family’s spokesperson, a bullet was found in Hillary’s head, an indication that she may have been shot at close range, execution-style.
As detectives continue to retrace the 28-year-old’s steps, analysing her financial records and other activity, it’s been found that a total of R1 300 was withdrawn from her bank account, around the time she went missing, on the evening of Friday 29 April 2022.
“There was confirmation this morning that there were transactions made by Hillary at the time she was abducted. With the revelation that there was a bullet found in her head, this might be a deviation that this was a common criminal act,” Thambo told reporters outside the Gardee home, on Wednesday.
Hillary’s three-year-old daughter was discovered a block away from her home, hours after she had gone to a Spar retailer nearby in Nelspruit.
Based on preliminary evidence obtained thus far, it may be that the 28-year-old was accosted on her way back from shopping, and somewhere along the way, her abductors made a pitstop near her home and dropped off the child, who was discovered by her family shortly thereafter.
Hillary’s lifeless body was discovered four days after she was reported missing, dumped in an open area in Mbombela.
Authorities are in a race against time, facing mounting pressure from politicians, to close the complex investigation, and already, they’ve faced criticism from the Gardee family.
“If the police can’t do a basic job of examining a crime scene thoroughly before taking the body… The level of [alleged] incompetence could jeopardise the case,” Thambo warned.
EFF leader Julius Malema did not hold back his tongue in his warning to Hillary’s killers. Here’s what he said:
