The Hawks have reportedly issued out a warning of an impending arrest that will likely take place on Thursday.
Report: Hawks are arresting a Covid-19 fraudster on Thursday
At this time, the details surrounding this announcement are very sketchy. All that’s been reported thus far is that the arrest will be related to a coronavirus (Covid-19) fraud case.
More updates to this will follow once the crime agency provides further details.
In other news – Bushiris have been snatched by the Hawks
In another case, the Hawks have forced self-proclaimed prophet Shepherd Bushiri to hand himself over after his wife Mary and another couple, Willah Mudolo and Zethu Mudolo, were arrested between Saturday 17 October 2020 and Tuesday.
According to Hawks spokesperson Colonel Katlego Mogale, Zethu was cornered in Sandton, Johannesburg, while her husband was snatched up at OR Tambo International Airport this past weekend.
Mary was at her home, on Tuesday, when a team of Hawks officials were sent to make the arrest. Her husband, the revered ‘prophet’ realised the walls were tumbling and came out of hiding to hand himself over at the Silverton police station.
“After attempting to evade the team, [Bushiri] handed himself over at Silverton police station with an entourage of attorneys,” the police statement read.
Is this related to the already existing fraud case?
We understand that the couples face charges related to a fraud and money laundering case involving the illicit movement of R102 million.
You will remember that Bushiri and his wife were out on a combined R200 000 bail for a money laundering case that’s been heard at the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court.
While it’s not been verified, there’s reason to believe that this Hawks arrest is not related to the latter.
The crime agency confirmed in the statement that the Bushiris are expected to appear before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court soon.
