Glenwood home invasion: Here’s what we know
According to reports, the tranquillity of the Pietermaritzburg neighbourhood was rocked at approximately 07:00 on Sunday, 24 November 2024, when several gunshots rang out from a property on Arabian Road.
When authorities arrived at the scene, what they stumbled on would send shockwaves reverberating across Glenwood. The bullet-riddled bodies of a boy and an adult woman believed to be the mother, were discovered lying in pools of blood.
The area around the property was quickly cordoned off and a team from the Department of Forensic Pathology was dispatched to process the crime scene.
Miraculously, police found another boy in the house.
The six-year-old survived the home invasion unscathed and may have witnessed the double murder, a crucial development that will play a key role in investigations.
Without the presence of surveillance cameras in and around the property, authorities have, thus far, relied on eyewitness accounts and speculation.
For now, it’s believed an unidentified man invaded the home on Sunday morning and unloaded a cartridge on the victims, opting to leave a witness behind.
Coincidentally, the husband had left the house to open his informal trading store six minutes away in Panorama Gardens shortly before the incident.
At this time, authorities have been cautious about naming persons of interest in a case that points to possible premeditation.
Investigations into the Glenwood double murder are ongoing with authorities yet to make an arrest.
