Things have since cooled down outside the forensic pathology building on Dr Savage Street in Gezina, Tshwane.
Gezina shootout: Here’s everything we can confirm
The calm comes hours after at least 10 armed suspects waged an all-out war with members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) on Wednesday morning.
SAPS prevailed against an army of suspects
Details surrounding the incident are sketchy at this time. However, we can confirm that the long arm of law enforcement prevailed against a hail of bullets, brought on by an army of suspects who were dead-set on a mission.
What did the suspects want in Gezina?
What this mission entailed, is the subject of speculation at this time. We can assume that further interrogation of the nine suspects who have been placed under arrest will shed more light on the dramatic scenes many onlookers witnessed.
Latest updates on the victims in the shootout
Even sketchier, are details on the current condition of those who were injured in the bloody confrontation. From what we know, at least two police officers were injured in the line of duty and were quickly airlifted to a nearby hospital.
All we know is that they are currently receiving medical treatment. Fortunately, none of our blue-uniformed officers was killed in the incident.
We can’t say the same about the bad guys, though. Renowned crime reporter Yusuf Abramjee confirmed in a tweet that at least one suspect was killed in the Gezina shootout.
The identities of the suspects have not been made public as yet. We have yet to understand the motive behind the full-blown attack on law enforcement officers.
