The four-year-old niece of the late civil rights hero George Floyd was the victim of an attack which, fortunately, she survived.
What happened to George Floyd niece?
As reported by TMZ, Ariana was asleep in her family home, in Houston, Texas, on Saturday night, when out of the blue, she was struck by a bullet in her torso.
Early leads in the investigation suggests that more than one suspect fired a hail of bullets targeted at the Floyd family household, according to Houston’s ABC13 news network.
Ariana, it’s believed, was the only one struck by the gunfire. She was rushed to a nearby hospital where she underwent surgery. According to doctors, the bullet that struck the four-year-old punctured her lung and liver, and broke three ribs.
Miraculously, with all that blood loss and a life-threatening respiratory injury, Ariana was stabilised and is currently recovering in hospital.
What do we know about the suspects?
Investigations into the attempted murder are underway but, as things stand, Houston detectives have hit a dead-end, with nobody willing to come forward with information on who is responsible for the shooting.
However, Ariana’s family spoke candidly with ABC13, claiming they are well aware of the person who attempted to take the life of George Floyd’s niece.
Interestingly, though, they are not at liberty to cooperate with authorities.
Ariana was present at the rallies held in his great uncle’s memory. Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, was killed by Minneapolis police on 25 May 2020 after he was reported for allegedly purchasing a pack of cigarettes with a counterfeit $20 bill.
His murderer, former officer Derek Chauvin was sentenced to 22 years and six months for second-degree murder. Three other officers, Alexander Keung, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao are next in line to face justice for their complicity in Floyd’s death.
