Late last night in the Nyanga district, a devastating mass shooting at Lloyd informal settlement on Govan Mbeki Road resulted in four fatalities.
Nyanga mass shooting: What happened during the incident?
According to reports from the South African Police Service (SAPS), officers responded to the scene following reports of gunfire at approximately 21:40 on Sunday, 28 April 2024.
Upon arrival, they discovered the bodies of the victims, all in their twenties, riddled with multiple gunshot wounds.
The area was immediately cordoned off as a crime scene, and forensic teams were dispatched to collect evidence.
The identities of the victims have not yet been released as authorities are in the process of notifying the next of kin.
Details about the victims are sparse as the community reels from the shock, and police work to piece together the events that led up to the tragic shooting.
As of now, the motive behind the attack remains unclear. The violent nature of the crime has led to widespread speculation, but SAPS officials have cautioned against jumping to conclusions until more information can be gathered.
