In the early hours of Monday, 8 July 2024, a bomb scare shook the Durban North Mosque, located on Kenneth Kaunda Road.

A statement from the trustees of the Durban North Mosque, Musjidur Rahman, revealed that around 00:45, a vehicle entered the mosque’s driveway, and an unidentified male exited the passenger side, placing an object into the shrubs near the mosque entrance.
The suspects fled upon noticing the approaching guard.
The guard promptly alerted mosque management, who then contacted the police. The SAPS bomb squad rendered the devices safe and removed them from the premises.
Preliminary investigations suggest the suspects were en route to another location with the devices when they were disturbed by the security officer.
The SAPS confirmed that the homemade explosive devices found at the Durban North Mosque were not set up to explode.
Authorities suspect the men were transporting the devices to an unknown location when they were interrupted by the security patrol.
Efforts to apprehend those responsible for the bomb scare are ongoing.
