Upon receiving the calls, paramedics rushed to the scene but had to wait for the all-clear from SAPS before approaching.
Once it was deemed safe, paramedics found that a cash-in-transit vehicle had been attacked by alleged robbers using explosives.
Fortunately, the occupants of the cash vehicle were not injured during the robbery.
The explosion caused significant damage to the vehicle, and the scene was littered with debris.
The N2 northbound was immediately closed to traffic to facilitate the investigation and ensure public safety.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes to minimize delays and congestion.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jamieson stated:
“We received multiple calls regarding an explosion and a robbery on the N2 northbound. Our team waited for the all-clear from SAPS before attending to the scene. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the vehicle’s occupants, but the impact on traffic is significant. Motorists should avoid the area while authorities complete their investigation.”
