Soweto police are investigating a robbery and a case of rape that allegedly took place inside a Mr Price outlet, in Diepkloof Square, on Thursday morning.

As reported by News24, armed suspects allegedly forced their way into the popular retailer and held staff members at gunpoint.
In a statement to the cited publication, police spokesperson Phephi Matlou confirmed the incident, revealing that the armed gunmen managed to access the safe and make off with an undisclosed amount of money, as well as cellphones.
The armed robbers, believed to be eight in total, fled in two vehicles that have yet to be identified, perhaps by the shopping centre’s CCTV cameras.
Local police and emergency medical officials arrived at the scene of the robbery at Diepkloof Square, and while no gunshots were fired, a patient was removed from the store on a stretcher, and rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Details, at this time, are sketchy, however, spokesperson Matlou did confirm that in the midst of the robbery, a female employee, who was found in the changing room, was allegedly sexually assaulted by one of the robbers.
“One of the female workers was [allegedly] raped and the suspects opened the safe in the store, making off with an undisclosed amount of money and cellphones,” told News24.
The Mr Price store in question had not returned our requests for comment at the time this article was published.
It’s believed the suspects involved In the brazen Diepkloof Square robbery are still at large, and potential armed.
