Gauteng authorities have been hot on the trail of the suspects involved in the Centurion Mall jewellery store heist and on Tuesday, police confirmed the arrests of two suspects.

Centurion Mall robbery: Who are the suspects?

Shortly after Swisher Post News reported on the incident that took place at midday on Monday, police confirmed that at least five suspects were involved in the jewellery heist.

Initially, it was thought that the victim who was found in cardiac arrest, and later, died, was an innocent bystander. However, Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Sello revealed the victim was, in fact, the owner of the targeted jewellery store.

“A 55-year-old man, who is the owner of the store was fatally shot,” he revealed.

A day later, after chasing up leads, police announced the arrests of two suspects who’ve been charged with armed robbery as well as murder.

From what we understand, the getaway vehicle that was allegedly used in the crime has been seized and will undergo rigorous forensic tests.

Moreover, according to reporter Yusuf Abramjee, more arrests in connection with the Centurion Mall robbery are expected.

The identities of the arrested suspects are still unknown at this stage.

How much jewellery was taken?

Police are appealing to the public for assistance with tracking down the remaining three suspects who, at the time this article was published, were still at large and regarded as armed and dangerous.

“The police appeal to anyone who may have information about this incident to please contact Colonel Mafanele Hlangwane of Lyttenton detectives on 082 822 6253 or Crime Stop Line 08600 10111; alternatively leave anonymous tip-offs on MySapsApp which can be downloaded on any smart phone.

“All information received will be treated with strictest confidence,” Col. Sello said.

While authorities were able to confirm that the robbers did make off with large quantities of jewellery and money, an exact amount or value was not disclosed.

“The suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of jewellery,” Sello added.
