Police from the Kraaifontein precinct, in northern Cape Town, made a crucial arrest, on Sunday evening.

Cape Town alleged drug queen arrested

A 44-year-old woman from Wallacedene has been on the radar of police’s anti-drug unit for some time. According to police spokesperson Colonel Andre Traut, catching the alleged drug queen in a vulnerable position was no easy feat.

It took collaboration between the provincial integrated task team and the national crime intelligence unit to build a solid case against the 44-year-old.

Cape Town police, for some time, have suspected that the woman was allegedly peddling drugs from her house. However, without a cut-throat plan to lure her into a trap, there was nothing they could do to arrest her.

A tip-off led to the woman’s arrest

It all came to a head on Sunday evening, thanks to a useful tip-off. The police were reliably informed that the woman would be transporting a considerably large consigment of drugs.

Sure enough, with probable cause, police descended on the woman and upon searching her handbag, found bags of marijuana and R27 843 in cash “believed to be the proceeds of her drug trade.”

The street value of the marijuana is, according to Col. Traut estimated at, at least, R6 000.

The woman, whose identity remains unknown, appeared before the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court on drug charges, on Monday.
