A shocking act of violence was captured on security cameras outside a tavern at the corner of Bree and Mooi Streets in Hillbrow on Sunday evening.
Hillbrow tavern shooting: Police on the hunt for this suspect
The CCTV footage, circulating on social media, shows the brutal shooting of two individuals in an incident that has left the community shaken.
The altercation began at approximately 21:13 at the tavern entrance.
According to the footage, a male suspect stepped away from a heated argument, drew a firearm, and turned to shoot the male victim, who was the subject of the dispute.
The gunman then turned his weapon on a victim seated nearby, who was uninvolved in the altercation, shooting them at point-blank range.
Eyewitnesses, visible on the surveillance footage, appeared unmoved as they watched the events unfold.
The suspect fled the scene immediately after the shooting.
The motive for the attack remains unclear, and Hillbrow police are actively searching for the assailant.
Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact law enforcement.
South African taverns are synonymous with violent altercations, often exacerbated by the uninhibited consumption of alcohol.
This incident mirrors another unrelated case in Thabong, Free State, where a 32-year-old man was shot dead inside a tavern on Monday.
Police reports indicate the victim was chased into the establishment by a gunman, who fired multiple shots before fleeing in a getaway vehicle.
“The 32-year-old man was declared dead on the scene. Police are investigating a case of murder,” police spokesperson Captain Loraine Earle confirmed.
