A 45-year-old woman from a settlement in Ballito, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) was arrested and charged with the murder of her four-year-old daughter.
Ballito woman charged with murder of four-year-old daughter
In a statement, provincial police spokesperson Constable Thenjiswa Ngcobo confirmed Umhlali authorities were called out to a residence in Ballito where the lifeless body of a little girl had been discovered, on Tuesday.
A team of officers was dispatched and, sure enough, they were met by the haunting sight of the toddler, whose hands were bound with tape.
A woman, identified by residents as the mother of the child, was questioned and according to Constable Ngcobo, she claimed responsibility for killing the four-year-old.
The 45-year-old woman revealed that she had forced the toddlers head in a bucket of water and held it down “until she stopped moving.”
Her motive? The toddler was, apparently, “difficult and troubling her.”
“The little girl was certified dead at the scene,” Constable Ngcobo confirmed.
The woman was placed under arrest and charged with murder. Her identity remains unknown, pending the outcome of her court appearance in KwaDukuza, on Thursday, where she may submit a bail application.
