On Thursday, the man accused of mutilating Monni Monyeki, a 28-year-old woman from Mathibestad village near Makapanstad. will appear in court where it’s expected that he will apply for bail.
Monni Monyeki: Details surface on how she was killed
The last time Monyeki was seen alive was on Saturday 29 May 2021 by her family relative, Letta. She was with her 15-year-old daughter and boyfriend at the time.
From what we understand, Letta thought nothing of it when she was informed that Monyeki and her entourage were headed to a nearby river to perform a ritual.
However, alarm bells rang off when the daughter returned home without her mother, later that day. What she would reveal to police four days later would turn the investigation into Monyeki’s disappearance in an entirely new direction.
How the daughter was allegedly drugged and raped
According to the teen, she and her mom were allegedly handed an unknown cocktail by the boyfriend shortly after they’d settled down at the river and before long, they were knocked out cold.
“The accused apparently raped the girl and thereafter warned her not to tell anyone about the incident. He allegedly put Monni who was still unconscious in a wheelbarrow and pushed her to his house. The daughter then went home leaving her mother at the boyfriend’s house,” Brig. Mokgwabone revealed.
Bizarrely, the boyfriend was with the daughter and the aunt at the police station, on Wednesday 2 June 2021, when the teen revealed this shocker. At the time, Monyeki’s family had approached authorities to file a missing person case.
Police’s relentless work paid off
Suspecting foul play, the police immediately cuffed the boyfriend on rape charges. However, Monyeki was still missing and according to Mokgwabone, the 34-year-old suspect was not cooperating.
Days would go by with no trace of the missing 28-year-old. The last time her daughter saw Monyeki was on that fateful Saturday when she witnessed her unconscious mom being ushered away in a wheelbarrow, in the direction of the boyfriend’s home.
Despite the 34-year-old’s refusal to divulge Monyeki’s whereabouts, police pressed on and finally, after two weeks of relentless questioning, a breakthrough was achieved.
Monni Monyeki body parts are missing
The boyfriend agreed to show police where he’d allegedly dumped the 38-year-old mom’s body.
“Monni’s burnt and decomposed body was found buried in a shallow grave in the bushes between Mathibestad RDP Section and Rajiepane village on Saturday, 12 June 2021,” Mokgwabone stated.
From what police could make out at the scene, it appeared that not only was Monyeki torched, a number of body parts had been butchered.
At this time, it remains unknown what Monyeki’s cause of death was. Moreover, the murder suspect has yet to divulge his motive for allegedly murdering his girlfriend.
The 34-year-old is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday where it’s expected that he will apply for bail. The man’s identity will be made public once this procession has concluded.
