Amahle Quku was a well-kept 17-year-old girl from Philippi, Cape Town, with her entire life ahead of her.
Unfortunately, her life would come to a screeching halt after an encounter with a man we can only describe as a cold-blooded predator.
Amahle Quku: Teen’s body found naked in Philippi
25-year-old Leonard Mzingeli was arrested and charged with the murder of Amahle Quku after her body was found bruised and naked by Browns Farm residents on the morning of Saturday 20 June.
As reported by IOL News, her mother, Mandulele, was informed of her daughter’s death by her brother who had stumbled on pictures of the teen’s naked dead body on social media.

The face of the man accused of killing Quku
Mzingeli appeared before the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday to register his murder charge. While it is believed that Quku was sexually assaulted, National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila confirmed that for now, Mzingeli will only face murder until sufficient evidence can substantiate the need for further charges to be added.

Amahle Quku: A timeline of events before she was killed
Mzingeli’s account of what happened the night he murdered Quku has yet to be heard. From what was shared by the teen’s boyfriend — a young man known on Facebook as ‘Veidor’ — it appears that the teen was out drinking on the evening of Friday 19 June 2020.
This can be corroborated by an exchange he and Quku had on that fateful night. As you will see below, the 17-year-old had planned on spending the night at her boyfriend’s place after her social rendezvous.
However, as we have come to learn, she never made it. Somewhere between the location she was grooving at and Veidor’s residence, she crossed paths with Mzingeli.
Quku will be laid to rest in the days to come and the 25-year-old is expected back in court on Tuesday 7 July.
