At last, the world has been granted access to the unedited body cam footage taken by Honolulu police on the night former rugby player Lindani Myeni was killed.
Body cam footage of Lindani Myeni killing released
As reported by eNCA, Myeni’s family won an appeal to have the Honolulu Police Department (HPD) release the raw and unedited body cam footage taken by responding officers on that fateful April night.
Despite the police department’s best efforts to prevent this, a Honolulu judge ruled in favour of family attorney Bridget Morgan-Bickerton three weeks ago.
The uncut footage shows how Myeni was accosted by three armed officers outside a property in a Hawaii neighbourhood he lived in with his family.
The footage you will see below shows how the former rugby player who, according to his wife Lindsey, had stepped out of their home to clear his head on that fateful night, found himself on a property that was rented by an Asian couple.
Coincidentally, the property was situated next to a prayer temple accessible to the public and we know from the testimony of his wife, that Myeni was “in search of spiritual guidance that day.”
This could explain why the former rugby player took his shoes off at the foyer of the property before he went inside.
For reasons not yet divulged, the Asian couple felt threatened by Myeni’s presence and the woman contacted police, frantically requesting help as there was a South African man named ‘Lindon’ on their porch.
Myeni, totally bewildered by the couple’s erratic behaviour, tried to de-escalate the situation but as soon as he realised it was a fruitless attempt, he made his way to his car.
Moments later, as seen in the body cam footage, a team of officers approached a confused Myeni with their weapons drawn. Before the former rugby player could even recognise who he was being accosted by, four shots rang off, striking and killing him instantly.
Here is the uncut footage of the fateful night which includes crucial clips taken from the rental property’s Ring camera.
