The spread of the coronavirus (Covid-19) in South Africa continues to escalate and it has gotten so bad that President Cyril Ramaphosa was forced to pull back most of the privileges we enjoyed at Lockdown Level 3.
South Africa Covid-19 cases surge as Ramaphosa reels in the privileges
According to the latest figures published by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) on Sunday, South Africa currently has a total of 276 242 cases of Covid-19, accompanied by 4 079 deaths.
Ramaphosa announced, in his Sunday evening address that the sale of alcohol is now prohibited under the adjusted Level 3 regulations and curfews have been set in place to restrict movement between 21:00 and 04:00.
These police stations have been temporarily closed
Some might argue that the call was made a little too late since, in the last 24 hours alone, at least seven police stations around the country have been forced to close down for decontamination due to Covid-19 exposure.
Of course, the number might be a lot higher but from what we know, these police stations are temporarily closed:
- Crissiesmeer SAPS, Mpumalanga: An employee in the building tested positive for the Covid-19 virus on 12 July 2020. The community can in the interim call the following numbers for emergencies and complaints: (017) 847 0038, 082 579 0210 or 082 399 4280.
- Nelspruit police station, Mpumalanga: A police officer tested positive for the Covid-19 virus on 12 July 2020. To access the station, the community should call 082 303 9658, 082 462 2582, 066 480 1408 for all emergencies and complaints which will be attended accordingly.
- Vrede FCS building, Free State: A positive Covid-19 virus case was detected. Bethlehem FCS will assist with urgent emerging cases and Captain Mbele can be contacted at 082 336 7746.
- Hertzogville police station, Free State: A member tested positive for COVID-19. The telephone lines at the station will not be accessible for the duration of the closure and the community is advised to use this number 082 466 8527 for any emergencies and or complaints.
- Bayswater police station, Free State: A member tested positive for COVID-19. The telephone lines at the station will not be accessible for the duration of the closure and the community is advised to contact the police at 051-4062649 or call the Station Commander, Lt Col Tyu at 082 467 6081 for any emergencies and or complaints.
- SAPS Ermelo 10111 Radio Room, Mpumalanga: An employee in the building who tested positive for the Covid-19 virus on 11 July 2020. The telephone lines, as well as 10111 lines in the radio room, will not be accessible for the duration of the closure. However, services will not be hampered.
- Bronville police station, Free State: A member tested positive for COVID-19. The telephone lines at the station will not be accessible for the duration of the closure and the community is advised to contact the Station Commander at 082 465 2779 for any emergencies and or complaints.
