Port Elizabeth police need your help in finding these two missing girls
Port Elizabeth authorities are piecing together the last known movements of two 14-year-old girls who have been missing for five days.
Who are the missing girls?
According to police spokesperson Captain Gerda Swart, Leverne September (left in the feature image) and Amina Mbulo were last seen by their respective families on Thursday 20 August 2020.
Apart from the images provided by authorities, there is not much else available on the girls at the moment. It would help to know who the last person they were in contact with was, their circle of friends and other social media activity that may hold clues to their whereabouts.
Port Elizabeth missing teens: This is everything we know about them
Captain Swart has expressed great worry about the condition of the girls as the search enters its fifth day, on Tuesday.
From what the police have indicated in their statement, it appears that September and Mbulo had left their homes in Missionvale that Thursday evening, without informing their respective families about where they were going.
The Google map below shows the location of the girls’ homes, as indicated by Captain Swart.
Interestingly, neither family knew of the girls’ whereabouts until Friday 21 August 2020 when a mutual friend — oblivious to their disappearance — went looking for them at September’s home.
“The grandmother of Leverne [September] realized that they were not home nor were they with friends in the vicinity,” Captain Swart wrote.
Shaken by this unusual behaviour, September’s grandmother informed Mbulo’s family of the girls’ disappearance and a community search was launched.
Information gathered from eyewitnesses indicates that September and Mbulo were last seen alive on Friday 21 August 2020, in Russell Road, in Port Elizabeth’s CBD about 14.5km away from Missionvale.
Unfortunately, the families’ search yielded no further results and two days after the girls went missing, a missing persons case was opened at Algoa Park police station.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of September and Mbula is encouraged to urgently contact D/Sgt Luzuko Pehlo on 082 5650155 or Crime Stop 08600 10111 or their nearest police station.
