Homicide detectives in Mthwalume, KwaZulu-Natal are not ruling out the possibility of a serial killer on the prowl in the coastal town after a fifth body was discovered on a farm, on Wednesday.
Mthwalume gripped in fear after fifth body is found
As reported by eNCA, the body of a woman was dug out of a bushy area located on a farm. The identity of the woman, at the time of publishing this article, had not been identified.
However, investigators believe that she is in her 20s. The cause of her death and more information about the condition of her body when she was discovered has yet to be determined by the forensic department.
We do know, though, that the woman was naked when she was found.
Is there a serial killer prowling the KZN village?
This makes it the second body of a dead woman that has been discovered in the same area of the seaside village this week.
eNCA reporter Desan Thathiah spoke to Mthwalume residents and there is a mounting fear that a serial killer may be on the loose, targeting unsuspecting women.
If, indeed, it is so, then the dumping grounds they are using belong to farmer Siya Gasa who claims that three more bodies were dug out of the same area on his land, in July alone.
The community has lost faith in the police and are calling on the government to step in and assist where possible.
Gasa has even put out a R20 000 reward for anyone with information on the killings that have gripped Mthwalume in fear.
“I’m also looking into bringing in a team of private investigators to make sure that they also do their own investigation and see what they can find. We are told that the police are also doing their own investigation but there and there, we are not happy with the way the investigation has been conducted,” Gasa said.
At this time, homicide investigators have not made any statements regarding the five murder cases.
