A woman from NU 9 in Motherwell, Eastern Cape, has been charged with the murder of 45-year-old Christopher Cwenga who, unfortunately, was at the wrong place, at the wrong time.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu, the incident took place at the victim’s home on Twebane Street, at approximately 19:00 on Monday.

“A group of neighbours were sitting in the house when they heard a baby crying in the shack at the back of the house,” Col. Naidu noted in a statement.

A woman, whose identity is unknown, went to investigate the source of the noise and as she heard the flatlet, she could clearly hear the occupants of the flatlet — a couple that has not been identified — arguing.

“When she opened the door, the 23-year-old female l(the suspect) unged at her with a knife,” Naidu added.

The woman’s blood-curdling screams alerted others who were still in the house. That is when Cwenga ran to intervene in the violence that was breaking out in his property.

“When Christopher Cengani ran from the main house, the enraged female also lunged at him with the knife. He was stabbed several times,” the police revealed.

Cwenga was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital in a private vehicle while the woman wielding the knife made her escape. Unfortunately, Cwenga would not survive the stabbing.

“He died during the early hours of this morning,” Col. Naidu said.

The search for the woman was quickly escalated to a full-blown search for a murder suspect and low-and-behold, the 23-year-old was found hiding at a house situated on Twebane Street.

“She is detained on a charge of murder and will appear in the Motherwell Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 10 February 2021,” the statement concluded.
