Limpopo authorities are using every resource available to hunt down a man who is believed to be responsible for the death of his wife and newborn baby.
Limpopo police in search of suspected family killer
As reported by News24, the suspect, known only as Naseem — he also goes by the name Neesham Ahmed — checked into a lodge situated in Masodi, a settlement that runs along the R518, on the evening of Tuesday 12 January.
According to police, the family secured a room at the lodge without providing their personal information.
Police spokesperson Colonel Moatshe Ngoepe revealed that the receptionist had granted them leeway since the couple had promised to fill in all blanks when they checked out the next morning.
However, Wednesday 13 January, came and went without a sign of the couple. So, the receptionist assumed that “they had left the premises.”
“On [Thursday] 14 January, the receptionist decided to go and open the rented room with the aim of cleaning it,” Col. Ngoepe noted.
What the receptionist stumbled on in that room will haunt her for the rest of her life.
Inside, the bodies of the woman and her newborn baby were in an advanced stage of decomposition.
What’s even more disturbing is the fact that their hands were bound, showing signs of premeditation. Ahmed was nowhere to be found.
What police have gathered on the suspect so far
Thus, it is presumed that he may have had something to do with the murder of his wife and newborn.
“The motive behind this incident is not clear at this stage but domestic violence may not be ruled out. The identity of the deceased is unknown, but investigations are underway to identify and locate their relatives,” Ngoepe added.
At the height of their suspicion is the man’s failure to report the murders. The urgency of tracing the suspect’s movements and bringing him in for questioning is not lost on Limpopo police.
The province’s top-cop Lieutenant General Nneke Ledwaba launched a 72-hour activation plan, bringing all departments together to track down and arrest the suspect.
“The suspect is believed to be in his thirties and anyone with information that can lead to his arrest is urged to contact [police],” he said.
With a two-day lead on authorities, Ahmed could have already skipped out of the country. However, authorities are betting against the latter. They believe that “the suspect can hiding anywhere.”
