Etwatwa police are coming closer to the realisation that perhaps, they may have lost too much time in their search for Hloniphile Baloyi.

New details surface in Hloniphile Baloyi missing person investigation

The 24-year-old from Daveyton, Ekurhuleni, left her home on the morning of Wednesday, 30 December 2020, saying she was headed to Lakeside Mall.

We now understand, from a statement released by police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo, that Baloyi told her mother, Tsakani, that she intended to visit a financial institution at the mall situated about 27km away from her home in Emaphupheni.

This was the last time Baloyi was seen alive and 10 days later, she is still nowhere to be found.

Was Etwatwa police too late in taking on the case?

Tsakani has also been active in the search for her daughter. She continues to use her voice on social media to keep her name alive.

According to statements she made a week ago, it would seem that Tsakani believes that the Etwatwa police could have reacted sooner.

In a Facebook post she made on Sunday 3 January 2021, four days into Baloyi’s disappearance, Tsakani revealed that the police had turned her away when she went to file a missing person case over the weekend.

“[The] pain of hearing the police telling you that they only goner (sp) help us on Monday (4 January 2021), dear God please help us and protect her wherever she is,” she wrote.

By the time local authorities had registered the case docket and assigned a detective, Baloyi had been missing for five days. With all that catching up to do, the hopes of finding Baloyi continue to diminish as the days go by.

Anyone with information on the 24-year-old’s whereabouts is asked to contact lead investigator Captain Peter Mathebula on 082 332 4722.

At the time this article was published, Baloyi was still a missing person.
