Bethelsdorp teen body found in bushes
Homicide investigators in Bethelsdorp are in search of anyone who may be able to identify the body of a teenager that was found on Friday 20 November.
Bethelsdorp shaken by brutal murder of a teen
According to Eastern Cape police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu, at approximately 20:15, local authorities were called to investigate the sight of a body that had been laying in the bushy area between Kroneberg Street in Ext 21 and Hibiscus Street in Ext 31 all day.
Upon arrival, the police quickly realised that they were dealing with a heinous murder.
“The body of a 19-year-old male was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his head,” Col. Naidu noted.
The execution-style murder of the teen shocked the community, which confirmed to authorities that “he is unknown by the residents in that area.”
This would suggest that the murder may have taken place elsewhere and the bushy area in Bethelsdorp was used as a dumping ground.
On the teen, police found nothing to confirm his identity. Therefore, he has been tagged as a John Doe until members of his family come forward to provide authorities with important identifier information that should open up more avenues for investigation.
Details on John Doe released: Here’s what we know
Bethelsdorp police have not released any composite sketches or detailed any crucial information on the victim, due to the sensitivity of the case.
It is hoped that a description of what the victim was wearing when he was killed will jog a memory. In a statement, Naidu revealed that the teen was found wearing:
- green checkered pyjama pants;
- a red and navy blue Fila tracksuit jacket;
- a Redbat golf shirt;
- black Dakota shoes; and
- a disposable surgical face mask.
“The circumstances surrounding his death is unknown at this stage and suspects are also unknown,” Col. Naidu concluded.
