Bellville triple murder: Police probe alleged taxi shooting

Published by Andile Sicetsha

Authorities in Bellville, Cape Town, have escalated an investigation into a shooting that claimed the lives of three victims, on Tuesday afternoon.

Details around the incident are sketchy, at this time. However, from what we understand, three people were shot and killed in the northern Cape Town suburb, with one bystander suffering serious injuries.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Andre Traut, early signs indicate that the shooting is related to ongoing feuds in the taxi industry.

“Provincial detectives are probing the circumstances which led to the death of three people in what we believe was a taxi-related incident yesterday (Tuesday) afternoon in Voortrekker and Charl Malan Roads, Bellville. One bystander was also wounded and is recovering in hospital. The identities of the victims are not disclosed at this stage,” Traut revealed.

The evidence police are working with

With a mountain of evidence and eyewitnesses to pile through, police are nowhere close to piecing together the events that transpired in the busy town.

One person of interest, a 32-year-old male, has been held for questioning. At this time, police would not reveal much about their reasons for arresting the male. It has only been stated that he may lead detectives in the right direction.

Moreover, at the crime scene, police confiscated five firearms, two of which were reported stolen. The other three weapons are licenced and a ballistics investigation has been launched to trace past and existing crimes.

More importantly, though, investigators hope to find the triple murder weapon in the arsenal.

“Any person who can shed light on the matter is kindly requested to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111,” Traut concluded.
