Apple’s iOS 17.2 update is expected to deliver new features aimed at boosting user security and enhancing daily journaling practices.
Apple iOS 17.2 update: Features and enhancements to expect
The software update, which is expected to roll out in December 2023, will introduce advanced security measures for iMessage users, alongside a novel app designed to enrich users’ lifestyle habits.
Among the key features is the iMessage Contact Key Verification, offering users the option to ensure they are communicating strictly with their intended contacts.
This security feature leverages Key Transparency, providing automatic verification of device keys through a verifiable map.
It alerts users of any discrepancies directly in their Messages or Apple ID Settings.
For heightened security, users can verify contact codes in person, via FaceTime, or a secure call, and even save a public key for specific contacts.
To utilise these new iMessage safeguards, all devices on a user’s iCloud must run at least iOS 17.2, macOS 14.2, or watchOS 10.2.
Devices on older versions must sign out of iMessage to activate the contact key verification feature.
Alongside these security enhancements, the iOS 17.2 update introduces ‘Journal,’ an app designed to assist iPhone users in fostering reflection and gratitude through journaling.
The app integrates a visual picker that suggests personal Moments for journal entries, such as exercise routines, visited locations, social connections, and multimedia engagements.
This personalisation ensures that only user-approved content is shared with the app.
Apple is also expected to unveil updates to StoreKit, providing new pricing properties like price, currency, and currency code on transactions, including details about any offers applied.
Additionally, Xcode’s StoreKit Testing now allows developers to send Purchase Intents to apps, streamlining the transaction management process.
