Residents from Site B, Khayelitsha, have taken to the streets to make their voices heard in a protest that has disrupted traffic in the region.
Khayelitsha Site B protests: What are residents demanding?
At this time, community leaders involved in the protest action taking place in Site B have not come forward with a memorandum that stipulates the motivation behind the picketing.
However, according to a chain message that did the rounds on Monday, it’s claimed that Site B residents are frustrated with the provincial government’s total neglect of the area.
Moreover, the protest, launched under the ‘Site B shutdown’ banner, is a final resort to get the City of Cape Town’s attention on the area’s ongoing sewage problems.

Road closures on Tuesday 28 September 2021
From what we understand, most parts of Khayelitsha have not been affected by the ongoing protests. The unrest is concentrated on Site B, the same vicinity that has become the crime scene of a brutal triple murder, where three young women aged between 17 and 21 were shot and killed, execution-style, on Monday evening.
Motorists driving in and around Site B, on Tuesday, have been warned to avoid, as much as possible, these roads:
- Mew Way Road;
- Parma Road;
- Bonga Drive; and
- Jeff Masemola Road
Also, it’s believed the unrest will be concentrated in these areas of Site B:
- P Block
- R Block
- PJS Block
- TR Block
- W Block
- V Block
- T Block
- Y Block
- S Block
- Z Block
- U Block
So far, no arrests have been made. Police are on the scene monitoring the unrest.
