The City of Cape Town continues to experience stable electricity supply, with loadshedding remaining suspended for 252 consecutive days since 26 March 2024, according to Eskom’s latest weekly power update.
City of Cape Town power update: Wednesday, 4 December 2024
This stability is attributed to structural improvements in Eskom’s coal-fired generation fleet, as detailed in Eskom’s weekly power update released on Monday, 2 December 2024.
Eskom reported a year-to-date Energy Availability Factor (EAF) of 63.0%, up from 55.5% in the same period last year, supported by ongoing planned maintenance and a reduction in unplanned outages.
Diesel savings have also increased significantly, with Eskom reporting a 71.9% reduction in diesel costs year-on-year.
No power disruptions are anticipated today, with Eskom’s available generation capacity of 29,128MW set to exceed the forecast peak demand of 25,809MW.
