City of Cape Town power update: Wednesday, 11 December 2024
This stability is a result of Eskom’s ongoing efforts under its Generation Recovery Plan, which has improved coal fleet performance and reduced unplanned outages.
Eskom has maintained a year-to-date Energy Availability Factor (EAF) of 62.8%, up from 55.4% during the same period in 2023. Unplanned outages are reported at 11,834MW, contributing to consistent electricity availability.
Diesel usage remains significantly reduced, saving R16.99 billion year-on-year, with usage staying within budget limits.
Eskom’s available generation capacity of 27,929MW is sufficient to meet today’s peak demand forecast, ensuring continued reliability for the City of Cape Town.
