The City of Cape Town continues to benefit from Eskom’s sustained suspension of loadshedding, which has now surpassed 253 consecutive days since 26 March 2024.

Eskom’s latest weekly update highlights ongoing success in improving the performance of its coal-fired fleet and reducing reliance on diesel generators, contributing to consistent energy availability.
Eskom’s year-to-date Energy Availability Factor (EAF) is 62.8%, an improvement from 55.4% during the same period last year.
Unplanned outages have decreased significantly, with today’s total at 11,834MW, reflecting improved operational efficiency.
Diesel savings now amount to R16.99 billion compared to the same period in 2023.
Eskom also reported an available generation capacity of 27,929MW, sufficient to meet the forecast peak demand of 25,830MW. With 2,600MW of additional capacity expected online by Monday evening, electricity supply remains stable.
