The City of Cape Town remains unaffected by loadshedding, as Eskom continues its suspension of power cuts for 257 consecutive days since 26 March 2024.
City of Cape Town power update: Friday, 13 December 2024
This reliability is supported by sustained improvements in coal-fired power station performance, reduced unplanned outages, and effective diesel usage management.
Eskom’s current Energy Availability Factor (EAF) is at 62.8% year-to-date, up from 55.4% during the same period last year.
Diesel savings have reached R16.99 billion compared to 2023, with usage remaining below budget.
These factors, combined with sufficient available generation capacity of 27,929MW, ensure a stable power supply.
Eskom is expected to release its latest weekly power update later today, which will provide insights into the national electricity outlook for the next seven days.
