Emthonjeni Swimming Pool reopens to public excitement
Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis, who visited the pool to see the completed renovations on Thursday, said:
“I’m really thrilled that Emthonjeni pool in Gugulethu is OPEN again. The revamp work is done, and the pool and grounds are looking beautiful.”
The mayor noted the enthusiastic reception from the local community, adding that children were already lining up to enjoy the refreshed facilities.
“Their excitement was a joy to see and a reminder of the purpose in our team’s work,” Hill-Lewis shared.
Emthonjeni Swimming Pool now boasts updated amenities designed to cater to families and individuals seeking a way to cool off during Cape Town’s summer heat.
The facility features a main pool and a kiddies’ pool, offering something for everyone.
Opening hours are Friday to Sunday, from 10:00 to 17:00.
Entry fees are set to remain affordable, with adults paying R9, children R3, and pensioners entering free of charge.
The reopening aligns with Cape Town’s broader efforts to enhance public amenities, such as maintaining world-class water quality at the city’s beaches and pools.
Recent water quality reports show improvements at several popular coastal spots such as Camps Bay and Fish Hoek, which meet international standards for safe swimming.
