BILLYWHATSTHEMOVE dropped his 4AM IN BLOUBERGSTRAND freestyle, releasing it as a sign of gratitude towards his fans who supported his album.
What we learnt from the freestyle
After the release of his album I Don’t Forgive, I Don’t Forget, that recently released on the 23rd of March 2021, Billy felt he needed to show his appreciation with the freestyle.
The freestyle begins with Billy thanking his fans for all the support he received from his latest body of work.
However, he continues to rap about his lifestyle in the township, emphasizing how he’s from the streets and has been through his fair share of troubles, using his music as his great escape from that life.
He concludes the freestyle by shouting out his close associates, touching on his filmmaking experiences, and expressing his ambitions in the music even comparing himself to fine wine.
The freestyle uses a soft beat, similar to that of boom-bap, with soft piano keys gently playing in the background creating a melancholic atmosphere.
What tops it off is Billy’s use of his rough-sounding voice gracing the beat as his cadence fits the melody and beat of the freestyle.

BILLYWHATSTHEMOVE: A talent at film and music
For those of you who didn’t know, the balaclava-wearing rapper is also a distinguished music director from Khayelitsha.
The rapper takes on two aliases, with his director name being Motionbilly.
He’s gone on to shoot and produce visuals for artists like J Clu’s song Still Love Her, Meet The Internet’s Day Dream, Bhudastee’s Camagu, YoungstaCPT’s Own2018, and Flash Ikumkani’s Mhluzi Remix alongside Bravo LeRoux and Soul T iDyan.
Although he’s done well as a Capetonian music director, it seems Billy has shifted his aim a bit on jumping in front of the camera and building his name as a hip-hop artist.
Check out his 2021 project, I Don’t Forgive, I Don’t Forget, now available on all streaming platforms.
